July 4th in Philadelphia

When I was younger, my visions of Philadelphia were mostly limited to cheesesteaks and history.

So, having already had my fill of steaks, something I hadn’t done that lingered on my list was enjoy the whole July 4 pomp of Philly. I knew it had to be special here and, turns out, there is.

So I took the Broad Street Line down to walk the Sunoco! Welcome to America festivities down at the Ben Franklin Parkway and waited eagerly for two other things I’ve come to associate with Philly: fireworks and Hall & Oates.

Then it started raining, so I met a buddy at a bar in the gayborhood and had a great time in my patriotic tie-dye t-shirt.

Turns out they had the fireworks — and Hall and Oates — anyway.
